Point Of Reference

CompassPoint of Reference

Establish a point of reference and map out your business goals and the path to your dreams early in life. Select your path wisely.

The first path to consider would be to assume the follow the herd mentality and play it safe by not taking any unnecessary risks and by continuously seeking praise and approval from your peers and customers for every decision and task you perform daily.

One example of ‘praise and approval’ would be the practice of delivering a business message similar to the following: “There’s a short survey at the conclusion of the services that I have rendered to you today, so please take a moment and let me know how well I did by visiting my website and express your opinion.

Solicited non genuine robotic comments of praise designed to satisfy SEO value for Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines may increase your website hits and make you feel good but have a ‘real life’ business value of zero.

Never require or ask for praise, comments or opinions when engaging your customers. If your customer is satisfied with your product or service, they’ll probably make no comment. If your customer is unhappy with your product or service, believe me, you’ll hear about it!

The second path to consider would be one where you embrace originality and take control of your destiny and assume a leadership role for your business by taking acceptable risks, being alert, recognizing trends, expressing your creativity, making sound decisions and not being a ‘copycat’ follower. Rather than generate feel good solicited robotic comments, use a  common sense approach which is quietly’ listen’ for unsolicited criticism,  ideas,  suggestions or comments and then take action, if necessary.

Remember to mentally point your compass toward your ultimate goal and allow no one’s opinion, negativity or critical thought to derail your creative aspirations or business objectives because your opinion and your point of reference for success as an entrepreneur is all that matters!
